HALFROX at CrossFit Mokena: 33 Athletes, One Big Morning
Early on Saturday, October 31, 33 athletes walked into CrossFit Mokena ready to race. We hosted HALFROX, a half distance version of a HYROX race, led by Coach Emily, and the energy in the box never let up from the first heat to the last finisher.
If you have never heard of HYROX, here is the simple version. A HYROX race mixes running with workout stations. Athletes run, then hit a station, then run again, working through stations like the sled push, rowing, farmers carries, lunges, and wall balls. A full HYROX race has eight runs of one kilometer each. HALFROX keeps the same format and the same stations at half the distance, which makes it the perfect first race for someone who is curious, and a great test for athletes training for the full event.
That is exactly why we run it here in Mokena. A half distance race lets a brand new athlete experience race day without the full distance hanging over them, and it lets experienced athletes check their pacing and their station work under real race pressure. There is no requirement to be at a certain fitness level first. Our coaches can adjust any station to fit your current fitness level, and the rest of the box will be cheering you through every round either way.
Missed this one? You have options. Our free community HYROX workout runs on the first Saturday of every month at 7am, and the next one is December 5. HYROX training classes run Tuesday at 5pm, Wednesday at 6am, and Saturday at 7am. And if the big goal is the start line itself, our 12 week race prep program is built around HYROX Chicago at Navy Pier, February 11 to 15, 2027.
The best first step is still the simplest one. Come try a class, meet the coaches, and see what a morning at the box feels like. You can claim your free class right here: https://www.cfmokena.com/free-trial
We are proud of every athlete who raced on Saturday, and we cannot wait to see who lines up next.
